We offer information, advice, and support for children and young people aged 0-25 and their parents or carers where the child has, or may have, special educational needs or disability.
What is SENDIASS?
SENDIASS stands for Special Educational Needs and Disability Information Advice and Support Service. Children and young people who have or may have special educational needs or disabilities (SEND) can get support from our service, along with their parents or carers and any professionals. The service is free, impartial, and confidential.
“Local authorities must arrange for children with SEN or disabilities for whom they are responsible, and their parents, and young people with SEN or disabilities for whom they are responsible, to be provided with information and advice about matters relating to their SEN or disabilities, including matters relating to health and social care.” SEND Code of Practice 2014, DfE
What is SEND?
SEND stands for Special Educational Need and/or Disability. If a child or young person is struggling in school, it’s possible that they may have a special educational need or disability. A child or young person with SEND might need support that’s different or additional to their peers. A child’s needs should be identified, and the support offered to them should match those needs.
There are four broad areas of need which we support children and young people with:
- Communication and interaction
- Cognition and learning
- Social, emotional and mental health
- Sensory and/or physical needs
