SENDIASS Volunteers supporting parents, carers, and young people

SENDIASS provides volunteers who offer support and advice to parents, carers, and young people which is offered confidentially and impartially.

Who are our volunteers?

Independent parental supporters are volunteers who come from across Tyneside and have a range of interests and expertise.

They often become a volunteer Independent Parental Supporter (IPS) because they have an interest in special educational needs, having worked in education or having been the parent or grandparent of a child with special needs themselves.

If you would like to volunteer contact us:

Please email us at DAISS@barnardos.org.uk or call us at 07881 834 429 or visit our website.

For parents and carers

Are you looking for support?

We can help you with any problems you might be having at school and can also give you information about other services like health or social care which could be useful too. We’re able to:

  • Help you to arrange a meeting with teachers and other school staff about the help you need in school.

  • Help you to write down all the things you want to say at the meeting and even come along with you to make sure that you have the chance to say all the things you wanted to say.

  • Help you and your parents, teachers, and other professionals in your life to make a plan about how to meet your needs.
