EHCP stands for Education, Health and Care Plan

An EHCP gives you:

• A full assessment
• A long-term plan
• Legal rights to certain types of help

You have the right to:

• Learn in your own way
• Be listened to
• Get the help you need

What does it do?

An EHCP is a legal document. It tells people about:

Your needs — what you find hard at school or college
Your support — what help you must get
Your goals — what you want to achieve

Who has to help?

Your local authority (LA) must give you the support written in your EHCP. This support is your right.

It can also help you:

• Get more support in school or college
• Choose the school or setting that suits you best

How do you get an EHCP?

You can only get an EHCP after a special check called a:Education, Health and Care needs assessment

This is when teachers, doctors, and other adults work together to:

• Understand your needs
• Decide if you need an EHCP

You and your family can ask for this assessment.

Remember

• EHCPs give more support than SEN support alone
• Not everyone needs an EHCP, but if you do, it can really help
• Your voice matters – you should be part of the plan too!
